Agadir’s hinterland climbs fast into the Western High Atlas, and this is the longest of our Agadir excursions — a full day trading the coast for mountain villages, honey terraces, a waterfall, and a valley with a slice of 1960s counterculture history. Lunch is included.

Your Day on the Honey Trail
We start with the climb to Agadir’s hilltop Kasbah for a panoramic view over the port, the beach and the Souss Valley, then head north on the road toward Essaouira and into the Western High Atlas. The route winds through ochre rock formations, limestone gorges and slopes of juniper, argan and pink laurel, climbing over the Tizi N’Ssi pass before dropping into the oasis of Tamzerghout, where Berber vendors sell fossils — ammonites, oysters and mussels — left behind from when this whole area lay under the Atlantic, tens of millions of years ago.
We arrive at Imouzzer des Ida Outanane, a small mountain village, for lunch at a hillside hotel: Moroccan salad, a meat tagine with nuts and honey, apple tart, oranges in cinnamon, and mint tea. The region is known for its highland honey — traditionally kept in hives made from hollowed cane, with bees foraging wild thyme, lavender and marjoram — and, on Thursdays, hosts a village souk.
After lunch, those who’d like to can take an optional 45-minute donkey ride up through olive groves and small canyons to a multi-tiered waterfall known locally as the Bride’s Veil, with cold mineral pools and moss-covered caves at its base (if you’d rather skip the ride, you can rejoin the group by vehicle). The falls run low outside the wet season, so expect more in the way of dramatic rock formations than a rushing waterfall for much of the year. Keep an eye out for Bonelli’s eagles and crag martins overhead.
From there we continue to Paradise Valley, a narrow, palm-lined gorge along the Ankrim River — known locally as Taghrat Ankrim — which, according to local lore, earned its English name from the 1960s travelers who camped along its banks. Dates, figs, olives and citrus still grow along the valley floor today. We then rejoin the main road back to Agadir and your ship.
