Erg Chebbi Desert Tour From Marrakech -03 Days
This three-day loop from Marrakech crosses the High Atlas to the Pasha’s ruined palace at Telouet and the UNESCO kasbah of Aït Benhaddou, continues through the Dades and Todra gorges to a night camping in the dunes of Erg Chebbi, and returns via the Draa Valley’s palm groves.
This trip can also be arranged to end in Fes instead of returning to Marrakech.
Day 1: Marrakech – Telouet -Ait Benhaddou – Skoura
Your 3-day Marrakech desert tour to Erg Chebbi starts by taking on the High Atlas mountains and crossing them at 2200 meters high. Shortly after the pass, take the off-road and reach Pasha’s ruined palace and the salt mines of Telouet. Follow the dramatic canyon of Ounila while on the other side of the canyon, the troglodyte grottos can be glimpsed in the distance. Stop and wander around the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ait Benhaddou citadel. Skirt through Ouarzazate and later, reach the palm grove of Skoura. Dinner and accommodation in a lodge at the heart of the palm grove.
Day 2: Skoura – Dades – Tinerir – Todra – Rissani -Erg Chebbi.
In the morning, have a guided tour of the palm grove with a local guide and learn about the architecture of the kasbahs, the marriage customs, and life in the community. Later, walk by the 300-meter-high gorges of Todra to then visit a traditional ksour and its ‘wells of light’ in Tinejdad. Reach Rissani and stroll around the Jewish district or the ruins of Sijilmassa. Arrive in Merzouga at the foot of the 300-meter-high dunes. Trade the 4×4 for camels and reach your desert camp in time for sunset. Dinner and accommodation at private tents with en-suite toilets and showers.
Day 3: Erg Chebbi – Nkob – Agdez – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Have breakfast early at the camp. Then, hop into the 4×4 and leave the Sahara behind to cross the Draa Valley, where the verdant palm groves slowly give way to almond orchards, and we wave goodbye to the dunes. Reach Agdez and have lunch. Later on, take on the High Atlas and its verdant pine forest. Reach Marrakech in the evening. End of your 3-day Marrakech desert tour to Erg Chebbi.

Nine of my grandchildren plus their partners (all in their 20’s) plus 3 other family members.
We were met on time by our fantastic driver Ibrahim who stayed with us all week. Our vehicle was a brand new Mercedes mini-bus. We also had different guides to some of the more historic places. Our travels took us from Marrakech to The Atlas Mountains, Sahara desert, Casablanca, Fez and Essaouira. We have unforgettable memories of camel riding into the sunset and dancing to Berber musicians infront of a fire pit late into the night.
The accomodation was outstanding in old, picturesque Riads everywhere (except luxury tents .with proper bathrooms . in the desert).
I cannot recommend this company too highly. We received exactly what was promised and they were always flexible if we needed to make a change.
Ofcourse, it’s helpful to have words of warning. There were some very long days of driving as we covered a lot of territory. This is not a choice for the less fit. Lots of steep stairs, not always with hand rails. . But I am 84 and I made it.
Also, don’t travel with checked in luggage. You don’t need many clothes and it’s easier to carry small cases.
This is our experience of just one of the many tours run by this excellent company. Good luck.

Drivers Mohamed and Yasser made us very comfortable and... read more are safe drivers on the busy streets of Marrakech. Musafeh, our tour guide was a wealth of knowledge, knew his way around town and very patient as we explored the souks, museum and garden. He guided us safely through the souks. He was very interactive with us through conversations and helped us with the merchants. Top 10 service.
