Discover the original inhabitants of Morocco, the Berbers, as your 4WD safari takes you across the rugged landscapes of the towering High Atlas Mountains. Traverse the valleys up to the summit of the mountains, and discover smiling faces, quaint villages, and an ancestral lifestyle that people thought had disappeared long ago. Your 4WD lets you get where the large tour buses can’t go. Nature rules supreme in these regions and dictates the existence of these tribal men and women. Depending on the season, you will discover lush slopes full of sheep or snow-covered summits. This exhilarating journey takes you up through the Oued Zat valley, dominated by the Taska n’Zat, passing by ancient Berber villages, built of pise clawed from the mountain slopes, tucked away in arguably the most beautiful valley of the Kingdom of Morocco – the Ourika.
Far from the heat of Marrakech, take in the peaceful scenery all around as you enjoy lunch in the Kasbah of Ourika, located in the famous Ourika Valley. Little walking is involved, but you are free to explore for a while after lunch.

Duration: 1-Day 4WD Safari in the High Atlas
8.30 am: You will be picked up from your hotel/riad in Marrakech for the Berber Trails Tour. Set out on your 4WD safari through the High Atlas with your English-speaking guide. Leave the noise and bustle of the city behind as you begin crossing the Atlas Mountains, following the ancient Berber trails. Traverse winding dirt tracks, passing earthen Berber houses, climbing upwards towards the Ourika valley. There will be numerous photo stops along the way to capture the beauty of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains.
10 am: There will be a stop for some delicious mint tea.
11 am: Arrive at a typical Berber village, high in the Atlas Mountains. Explore the village and interact with these friendly men and women, the ancient inhabitants of Morocco.
12.30 pm: The tour will stop for lunch in the mountain village of Oukaimeden, Morocco’s main ski resort. Savor the stunning mountain vistas all around whilst enjoying your lunch of Moroccan salad, tagine, fresh fruits of the season, and tea. NB. No alcohol is served in the restaurant.
2.15 pm: Depart for Marrakech, via Asni and Tahannout, for some more photographs.
4.30 pm: Your 4WD safari through the High Atlas ends with a drop-off at your hotel/riad or the closest drop-off point in Marrakech.

14 April 2025 Family fun in Morocco - I could not be more delighted with the service that we received from this company from the day we booked it to the day we were dropped at the airport.... read more We were a party of 12. Nine of my grandchildren plus their partners (all in their 20’s) plus 3 other family members.
We were met on time by our fantastic driver Ibrahim who stayed with us all week. Our vehicle was a brand new Mercedes mini-bus. We also had different guides to some of the more historic places. Our travels took us from Marrakech to The Atlas Mountains, Sahara desert, Casablanca, Fez and Essaouira. We have unforgettable memories of camel riding into the sunset and dancing to Berber musicians infront of a fire pit late into the night.
The accomodation was outstanding in old, picturesque Riads everywhere (except luxury tents .with proper bathrooms . in the desert).
I cannot recommend this company too highly. We received exactly what was promised and they were always flexible if we needed to make a change.
Ofcourse, it’s helpful to have words of warning. There were some very long days of driving as we covered a lot of territory. This is not a choice for the less fit. Lots of steep stairs, not always with hand rails. . But I am 84 and I made it.
Also, don’t travel with checked in luggage. You don’t need many clothes and it’s easier to carry small cases.
This is our experience of just one of the many tours run by this excellent company. Good luck.
